I am touched by newborn babies who have to be supported by life sustaining equipment in Intensive Care Unit soon after their birth for different reasons like pre-mature birth, lack of oxygen in body, breathing disorder, infections and sometimes even surgical intervention. Many of them need prolonged care for days requiring ventilatory (breathing) support and expensive drugs. A fund to support and expensive drugs. A fund to support these babies and expand the department is need of the hour so that not one of these babies die because of lack of resources and facilities.

Second cause is about children born with cleft lip or palate who suffer from various problems like difficulty in feeding, development of speech & psychological challenges due to disfigurement of face. The hospital is offering free surgeries to these children with support from a Swiss Charity. Besides helping these children, hospital plans to build a dedicated centre for them. Such a centre does not exist in our city and is much needed.

Third cause is about patients suffering from chronic kidney failure who require dialysis 2 or 3 times in a week sometimes for many years! For those in the lower income group, this expensive treatment is a nightmare. Many people decide not to undergo dialysis at all which leads to a fatal result. Hospital plans to improve the long-term sustenance of such patients.

Let us all make a collective and organized effort to expand these activities of dedicated NGO like Brahma Kumaris’ Global Hospital & Research Centre who manage BSES Municipal General Hospital, Andheri (W).
